NJC recommends appointment of 21 judges

The National Judicial Council on Friday released the names of 22 nominees for appointments as a member of the Code of Conduct Tribunal, heads of some state courts, and judges in various states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The NJC had through its Director, Information, Mr. Soji Oye, announced on Thursday that council decided to send the names of the nominees to President Muhammdu Buhari and the relevant state governors for confirmation at its 86th meeting held on May 8 and 9, 2018.

But the names of the nominees were only given in a statement issued by Oye on Friday.

“The newly appointed candidates will be sworn-in after the approval of the President and their respective state governors as the case may be,” the statement said in part.

The appointments were in respect of various positions including the Chief Judge of Kebbi State, with Justice Elizabeth Karatu as the nominee; Chief Judge of Katsina State, for which Justice Musa Danladi Abubakar was nominated; Grand Kadi, Kaduna State, with Kadi Alhafiz Mikail Abubakar nominated by the NJC;  and President, Customary Court of Appeal, with Justice Abbazih Saddeeq as the nominee.

The NJC nominated Julie Anabor to fill in the long-standing vacancy on the three-man bench of the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Others who were nominated for various judicial appointments were, Bilikisu Gambo Yusuf and Ishaku Usman as judges of the High Court of Niger State.

Three persons nominated as judges of Borno State High Court were Musa Mustapha, Baba Gani Karumi and Waziri Alhaji Abubakar.

For Kogi State High Court, three persons were nominated for appointment as judges and they are  Husaini Alhasan Saidu, Zubayr Saliu  and Ruth Alolo Alfa.

Gombe State High Court is also to have two judges. Two persons nominated for the positions are Muhammad Haruna and Fatima Musa.

Two persons were also nominated as kadis of Sharia Court of Appeal, Gombe State; and they are Muhammad Inuwa Gombe and Hadi Aminu.

Four persons were also nominated for the third set of appointments for Gombe State.

The four nominees were tipped as kadis of Sharia Court of Appeal in the state.

They are: Ahmad Muhammad Gidado, Mustapha Lalloki, Dalha Bashir Ahmad and Atiku Muhammad Bello.
