The Continuous Voter Registration exercise has attracted 242,546 new voters in Sokoto State, according to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC),
A statement signed by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner, Malam Sadiq Abubakar Musa explained that the figure might reduce after the application of business rule, Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).
“The AFIS will eliminate those who may have registered more than once thereby bringing the figures slightly down,” it said.
He gave the number of people who applied for re-issuance of PVCs at 25,105 while 6,475 applied for transfer.
It noted that the permanent voter’s cards for those who had registered in 2017 were ready for collection, adding that they were working assiduously to produce for those who were registered this year.
He noted that 32,419 were still unclaimed in the state.
